ARISA Chapter 10: Takagi Mariko Summary

An astounding response on the poll at the forum! A majority of you voted “yes”, so here you are: a summary of the latest published chapter of ARISA.

Spoiler warning, of course. And I added a bit of commentary. Sue me. xD

So we left off with the mysterious shadow dude talking to Tsubasa and Mariko, right? Supposedly, this guy is the king (or at least Tsubasa assumes so). He tells Mariko that she cannot be one of the five that get into the King’s Secret Room, and she freaks out, as expected. Mariko insists that her wishes haven’t been grated yet (the “good” Arisa hasn’t been returned to her), so she needs to get into the room!

Mariko gets confused; the King tells her he doesn’t want her at all, that he’ll make her disappear, and sends a wall (ceiling?) crashing down on her. Tsubasa knocks her out of the way, and more shadow-dudes start swarming them. Manabe thinks the King is using mirrors to achieve this, but…it’d be cooler if he was magical. Tsubasa runs, and crashes into, uh, Midori! Arisa’s boyfriend (who apparently doesn’t do much with her, since we don’t see him very often lol). He says he’d been searching for her…

Meanwhile Mariko heads back to school, freaking out, and tells the class she can grant their wishes; they look at her and ask who the heck she is. So maybe shadow-dude really is the king!? If he washed Mariko from everyone’s memories, making true on his promise to make her “disappear”!?
Everyone kind of sneers at her, bringing back old childhood memories of bullying. When the truth has finally sunk in, that the king no longer wants her, she starts screaming.

There are 24 hours left till the King’s Room will be open and wishes can be entered. Manabe wants to figure out whose passwords were the ones chosen; since Mariko’s out of the picture, there are only 3 other people with working passwords.
Word gets out that Mariko is transferring schools (wait, they know her now? plot hole), and people say it’s because the King has cut her off.

Tsubasa catches up with her and asks if it’s true; she is transferring, but more because of her past experience with everyone ignoring her and bullying. She tries to burn all her pictures from her life at that school, but Tsubasa manages to save one–a picture of Mariko and Arisa. Tsubasa says she’ll never forget about Mariko, and offers her back one of their matching cell phone charms, with the intention that they’ll always be friends. Yaaaay happy happy friend time!
Mariko’s parting words are that Arisa shouldn’t lose to the king.

Meanwhile, Manabe is walkin’ down the hall, and bumps into someone. That someone drops their phone, exposing their password to the King’s Room–and it’s one of the chosen ones. Guess who the phone belongs to? Arisa’s boyfriend, Midori!

End of chapter.

I always thought the King told them to “forget” her to crush her even more?

humm yeah I thought that Midori was suspicious too… at the beginning, when I saw him I just couldn’t help thinking he was the king… but well it is still a mystery !! I wanna know what kind of connection has midory with the kind XD

@Kiseki: Ah, you mean rather than wipe their memories? That would certainly make more sense. xD
Comprehension has never been my strong point.
Either way it had the same effect: Mariko transferring schools.

May I ask why don’t you continue with this amazing manga even though it has been licensed? I mean it is not illegal or anything as there great manga out there like Naruto, Bleach, Vampire Knight, etc They are all licensed but still being scanlated.

Pls pls continue with this manga >.<

    lol BlackBunny,
scanlating is in some way illegal, either the manga is licensed or not… because you use the original and modify it without the endorsement of the mangaka or the japanese company which owns the rights on the manga…
and when it is licensed : you get in more trouble with the english company which licenses the manga and translates it. It is a loss for the English company… but well anyway : it is a loss for companies whether it is licensed or not, because if people gets it online, and don’t buy it will be in the end a loss… well I agree with you : why don’t they continue scanlating it even if it is licensed because in the end it is all illegal… well because when it is licensed : you can really get in trouble with the company… I think this is the real reason… well some group say because they want you to buy it when it comes out but well in some country it will never be out so… it doesn’t make sense. Well as for Bleach, etc. : groups still scanlate it because they are willing to take the risk! thanks to them you can read these wonderful manga ! but it is not because it is legal : scanlation is illegal in some way as I said. I hope my explanation helps !
